Internet Restrictions in the UAE: VPN the answer?

Hi All,

Quick question: I've heard that the UAE has A LOT of restrictions when it comes to internet browsing.. Is this true? Is there a way around this? I've heard its so strict that you can't even download skype when in the country (yes I know I can download it before I enter the country)..

Has anyone set up a VPN to bypass the security issue?

Any suggestions on how to work around it would be great..

Yes, buy a VPN subscription before you arrive.

It's not just porn and dating sites which are blocked; there are many innocuous information sites which are also blocked because they contain content which criticises either the UAE, Islam, women's rights etc.

Hey ...it is true, but you can downlod hot spot van or express vpn if u have ipaid or iphone then ur life will be easy

I survived from China for 24 years.In UAE internet is much more freedom...

absolutely rite many sites are like banned in UAE but yes u can have vpn and then u can access any site or anything u want. and as far as skype is concerned then if u have it on ur pc then u can use it.

I would recommend Private Internet Access the most.聽 They are one of the best VPN providers - You can go to privateinternetaccess.com to signup.聽 I have been using them for over a year.聽 I found out about them from torrentfreak.com/which-vpn-providers-really-take-anonymity-seriously-111007/

I recommend it if you are in UAE, my friend.

Dubai, UAE is one of the destinations where you may face a few internet restrictions. If you are using MAC, you can download any of the VPN available in Apple Store. No matter in which country you are.

My family uses the lot; Apple, Android and Windows + Smart TV's with internet access to Skype, Netflicks, Amazon, BBC iPlayer, ITV player etc.

Is it best to get a VPN before I arrive or after? I've heard that some VPN providers are blocked in the UAE - is this true?
