TransferWise is currently the most cost-effective remittance service in the world. The company is in the UK and is strictly supervised and protected by the law. I use this service to transfer money from my account in Canada to my Bangkok Bank account in Thailand every month. It takes about two working days to get the money. There has never been any problem. Though I would read about the service as you have suggested it...
I have recently started using the DBS Digibanks remittance service which does not have any kind of transaction cost or banking cost on my remittance from India to Canada.
The exchange rate I am getting is also pretty good compared o other mediums.
