Do you have a U.S. address also ? If you do it might be safer to try your U.S. address.

If you are not getting it at all yet, If it were me, I would be visiting that brother in the U.S. to get it fixed. They are working hard to eliminate SSI so I would not wait.

I worked for more than 30 years and didn't pay into SS as I had a state pension.聽 Once I retired I only had about 18 quarters credit from misc work where I did pay into SS, so I needed to get 22 more quarters to draw any SS.聽 I can't recall the exact $ amount SS says is a "quarter".聽 I think it's around $3000.聽 So if you worked just three months in a year but made $12,000, you have your four quarters for the entire year.

Well you both may be a little off target. Trump and company got the obscene tax bill passed, so them聽 creating problems with SSI isn't a far leap after all.聽 They are also taxing many on their SSI income.

As for government pensions, that exempted people from signing up for SSI when my uncle was in the Navy, which was long ago. I have a state Gov. pension also, but I still paid into SSI, it made no difference for me at all.

How they figure quarters.."We use your total yearly earnings to figure your Social Security credits. The amount needed for a credit in 2018 is $1,320. You can earn a maximum of four credits for any year. The amount needed to earn one credit increases automatically each year when average wages increase.

You must earn a certain number of credits to qualify for Social Security benefits. The number of credits you need depends on your age when you apply and the type of benefit application. No one needs more than 40 credits for any Social Security benefit." SSA.Gov.

As for who did what, It was Reagan , then trumps new tax was signed so this聽 year The cost of living increase just edged many over the magical allowance聽 under the new tax system..
