Great topic suggestion.

2 years ago today when we moved to Cancun we sold our 2 cars and my motorcycle that we used to own in California.聽 Being that this is our second time living in Mexico we found it to be a pain to bring our vehicles to the Mexico from the US.聽 Just another ocean of papaer work that we did not want to deal with.

聽 聽 聽Our original plan was to buy an older car when we got here.聽 聽anyway that was 2 years ago.聽 The public transportation here ROCKS!!!!聽 Especially when your from the west coast US where it is not so good.聽 聽Literally half the cars here are taxis and they are cheap.

Buses in the downtown area are 6.5/ approx .40 cents US pesos per person per way or in the hotel zone 8.5 pesos/ approx .70 cents US
they run about every 5 minutes.聽 聽The great part is that you dont even need a bus stop here.聽 You can get off or on where ever you want just by either flagging them down or telling them you want to stop at a particular corner.

Taxis run about 23 pesos/ approx 1.91 US down town or centro and about 60-80pesos / app 5-7 dollars us in the hotel zone .

There is also a greyhound like bus system called ADO, that is really nice with AC, comfortable seats, bathroom and they show movies that takes you anywhere in Mexico.聽 聽We have used this to visit the surrounding cities in Cancun.聽 It is called ADO.聽 Rates are reasonable.聽 聽Usually 3 or 4 bucks to the next town over or 10 bucks to go to play del carmen which seems to be a popular place to visit.

Anyway, does not seem to pay to have a car here, unless it is a status thing.聽 you can get from one end of town to the other in about 15-20 minute bus or taxi ride.
