@andreascnm I think starting by treating it as a long research project rather than a decision you have to emotionally accept all at once. Brisbane might not be Sicily, and the subtropical climate may not be your dream, but your interests actually sound very compatible with Australia in general, especially birding, native plants, hiking and conservation groups. I’d probably begin by joining a few Brisbane gardening, bushwalking and birding groups online, reading about suburbs with good access to green space, and planning a long trial visit before committing properly. Being close to your daughter and granddaughter is a huge pull, but it’s also completely understandable to grieve the distance from the rest of your family and from the life you imagined. I’d give yourself permission to feel unsure while slowly gathering practical information.

Yes, joining this forum and starting to research Brisbane and the neighborhood where my daughter will live has helped give me a sense of direction and a level of acceptance. Your words are very thought provoking. A long trial visit sounds interesting. Im definitely feeling very unsure and starting to feel my age. Ive moved pretty frequently in my life for one reason or another. Do I have a move halfway around the world in me at 70?
