It depends on the neighborhood you live in whether it is safe to walk a dog. There are beaches here but generally not many expats expose themselves to the risk at the local beach. You may have to go outside of town a bit to really get a good walk. Most locals are scared of dogs, especially German Shepards and Rottweilers.

From New Zealand/Australia, it seems easier than USA. I had to leave my dogs in the States since it required a 6 months quarantine period (can be done under vet supervision in the USA) and A LOT of paperwork, not to mention a great deal of expense. Best bet is to email. This is what I was told when I looked into it before moving here: please be advised that all imports of live annimals and plants to Papua New Guinea are prohibited imports, unless otherwise prior approval is obtained from the "National Agriculture Quarantine & Inspection Authority (NAQIA)" of Papua New Guinea. We advise that you contact NAQIA to obtain the relevant information relating to your query as they are responsible for executing relevant legislations governing imports of live annimals and plants. Just a quick update, I did find a very nice little puppy who we named Milo. Not sure of his breed but he is a cute little thing. We are working on potty training which is a little hit and miss right now but he is trying very hard to do the right thing. I did try the RSPCA but they only had one dog that was available but he was too big for our daughter. Glad to know the RSPCA is having success at placing animals!!!
