Mercosur is an economic trade bloc. It is not like the EU. Having a Brasilian passport only removes the requirement to obtain a visa before visiting Mercosur countries as a tourist, nothing more.

You can apply for a family reunification visa at a Brasilian consulate due to your situation, but, be advised that you will be required to actually live in Brasil and that the visa, not easily granted, will come with conditions and a time limit. This visa only gives you the right to live and work in the country, nothing else.

A passport takes time, at least one year of unbroken residency due to the child, and you must pass a stringent Portuguese language fluency exam both written and spoken before you will be considered for citizenship in addition to other requirements. Getting your passport here is difficult for good reason. Don't bother unless you are going to live here.

Note that without the child, if you were able to meet the requirements for a CRNM card on your own, the residency requirement BEFORE being allowed to apply for citizenship is 4 years. In late 2017 Brasil tightened up immigration rules significantly.

FWIW your US passport may or may not require visa's for countries down here anyways.
