housing in cartagena

I will be in the Cartagena area the month of August. I have a place reserved for one week in Boca grande but I'm looking for longer-term affordable housing in a safe area of Cartagena. does anyone know the best way I should do this?

Cartagena being a tourist destination, prices will be higher.聽 But if you live like a local you can find something.聽 You will need to speak good Spanish, and still you may end up paying the gringo tax, no doubt - but if prices are listed you may endure only a minimum of gouging...you can also just walk around and look for signs in windows indicating a property is for rent -聽 En Arriendo, En Alquiler, Se Alquila, etc. with a phone number to contact.

The Cartagena market is tough - because it's a tourist attraction you can rent apartments by the day, but prices are high - just giving a casual look I could not find anything less than 100,000 COP, about $25 USD, per day for a small apartment.聽 Consider renting a room!

Try using Locanto, a free service like Craigslist, to browse houses, apartments, and rooms for rent:

Look under Inmobiliara and click on Apartamentos en arriendo, Habitaciones en arriendo, or Casas en arriendo, depending on your preference.

Boca Grande gets old quickly, constant hassling on the beach from vendedores ,and again on the streets ...find a better area than that-away from the tourists.........I like Crespo, very safe and no hassle on the beach....10-15 minute ride away from the Centre of Cartagena...taxis and buses every 5 minutes....did I mention it was safe?-huge police station there,so no one messes about...
