About

Ever since I went to Germany during my college days, my goal was to live abroad, and I did manage to do that for 18 years in Japan. Now I am back in the US and retirement is 2 to 4 years away, and so I am thinking of retiring back abroad. I had been thinking of Serbia, but recently I have been drawn to the idea of Mexico, or at least giving it a try. Perhaps it is because that is where my grandmother was from, and so I have a sort of connection to the country. At any rate, I am interested in the colonial cities rather and not very much in anyplace near the coast, mainly because I melt in humid climes.
Interests: Bird watching, shoegaze music, Chen style taichi, and of course travel., mountain dulcimer

Oaxaca de Ju谩rez, Oaxaca, Mexico

Since Jul 2018

Oaxaca de Ju谩rez, Oaxaca, Mexico

Getting a feel for the place and deciding if I want to stick around
Good food, variety of neighborhoods, cheap prices (for an expat), and pretty nice people. It is also mostly flat.
Expats surges (snowbirds etc) make rental pricing and finding trying.

Guanajuato, Guanajuato, Mexico

May 2018 - Jul 2018

Guanajuato, Guanajuato, Mexico

Studied Spanish, walked up a lot of uneven steps, got wet a lot, ate good food
Good food, compact
Hills, hills, hills, not enough streets. I got bored fast as there was really only one road to everywhere. . . and everything else was straight up.
