Driving in Brazil and/or obtaining a Brazilian Licence. by zebedeespring
I am British and have held a full British drivers license for almost 25 years. When I moved to Brazil in 2014, I did not have my license with me at the time due to forgetting it. I have a right to remain here and a RNE (I am married to a Carioca, ...
The first thing to note is that you get 180 days from when you get into the country to use your foreign license. Even if you've already been in the country before I've heard that the clock resets when you leave. I knew I'd be there for a ... Read More

I've heard more reports of assaults but I've never seen anything myself. This has been more of a factor of economic issues than political stress really. It's not too hard to avoid political protests (actually you should sign up for the ... Read More

Taking a stroll in Olinda is usually fun during the day (check out Bodega do Veio on Saturday). The street fest in Recife Antigo has never been a problem for me and usually there are interesting things to see. Usually there are a variety of concerts ... Read More

Sorry about that... I'll see if I can clarify further. His wife is with him in the US as well. My concern would be the time it would take to get to "perman锚ncia definitiva" since the RNE/CIE protocolo is required for his carteira ... Read More

My fault... Yeah, it makes more sense that he was "denied entry." He did have a VIPER (perman锚ncia) before and is a US citizen. I'm definitely with you on the fact that it's the person's responsibility to know this stuff ... Read More

How do I get registered for PIS under a permanent visa? by jota23
Looks like I will be gainfully employed in Brazil. My future employer is asking for my PIS number. Do I actually get this as a noncitizen? Looks like I go to Caixa to register. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!
Aha! Mystery solved... I have my CTPS. I just looked in the front cover and there is my PIS/PASEP number! I'm also assuming that I am eligible for the benefits of PIS. [edit: I think I confused PIS with the credit that you can get for paying off a ... Read More

Thanks all... It's looking like I may just end up testing the waters with a local job. Lower pay, but still decent pay nonetheless. Then I just have to keep Uncle Sam's grubby hands off of it. From what I understand that doesn't seem too difficult. Read More
