While living in Europe, I only knew about the Caribbean as the place where pirates sailed the high seas and where many of their gold-laden ships sank leaving treasures behind to be discovered… Now that I am already here, other realities came up. Within a relatively small area, several cultures co-exist: Spanish, French, Dutch, Danish, English, American and indigenous. Expat communities began to take shape in the 1960's, with an increasing influx for the past ten years. The weather is great: who the heck needs winter?
